As it was St Patrick's Day last week, here are a dozen funny, and wise, Irish sayings.

In heaven there is no beer; that’s why we drink ours here.

A good laugh and a long sleep are the two best cures for anything.

Who gossips with you will gossip of you.

As you slide down the bannister of life, may the splinters never point in the wrong direction.

Why should you never iron a four-leaf clover? You don’t want to press your luck.

May your coffee be strong and your Monday be short.

May the Lord keep you in His hand and never close His fist too tight.

If you’re lucky enough to be Irish, then you’re lucky enough.

May the Good Lord take a liking to you — but not too soon.

He who keeps his tongue keeps his friends.

You’ve got to do your own growing, no matter how tall your grandfather was.

This isn’t a hangover – it’s the Irish flu.
