Enzo Ferrari called it “the most beautiful car ever made” - and few would disagree with that. But there's now the possibility of a sublimely updated E-Type.

There are very few people in the world you would trust to restomod an E-Type, but former Jaguar design director Ian Callum (1999 - 2019) would most definitely be one of them, and his team’s latest work imagines exactly that scenario.

Callum Designs’ E-Type concept in gun-metal grey and red leather interior

This is Callum Designs’ E-Type concept. It forms part of the British design house’s new ‘Portfolio Project’ series, and, while merely a render for now, the team would build one from an old E-Type for the right customer. And for the right (and as yet unknown) price.

As for the design itself, the original stance has been dropped a few inches and the proportions widened with meatier wheel arches, says Top Gear. Other touches include new casing for both sets of lights, larger tailpipes and dished three-spoke alloys, supplemented with aero discs.

Callum's website describes their business as "a fresh, dynamic British design and engineering house creating and crafting bespoke products and services for our customers and clients." And now they have come up with an oh-so-tempting 21st century update to the jag that first hit England's roads in March 1961.

Callum says the interior can be tailored entirely to your needs, but wouldn't you stick with the red leather and wood trim spec shown - both pretty and minimalist. There’s a speedometer and rpm dials ahead of the vintage-looking steering wheel, navigation and music gauges sandwiched between fuel and oil temperature readings, and… not much else, actually.
