The Rockwall High School volleyball team in Nevada, Texas has proven that kindness really does come full circle.

When the players learned that their beloved school janitor, Abel Rodriguez, didn’t have a car, they decided to take action - and their community rallied around them in a thoroughly heart-warming way. Rodriguez, is known throughout the school for his constant encouragement, high fives, and contagious smile - and he never misses a game, always making sure every player steps on the court with a “good luck” and a mood-boosting dose of positivity.

“He’s an amazing guy,” the team wrote on their GoFundMe page. “He comes to cheer us on during all of our games. He’s never let us step on the court without a high five and a ‘good luck.’ He’s known throughout the school to always have a smile on his face and a hug if you need it. We recently found out that Abel doesn’t have a car. That’s an extreme disadvantage in today’s world and we hate to see such a great person struggle while never once wearing it.”

The students partnered with Rockwall Ford and set a goal to raise enough money to get Abel a car - and even cover his insurance. Within days, the community’s generosity poured in, helping the team raise over $9,000 and buy the car that he needed.

To celebrate the moment, a crowd of more than 100 students, teachers, and parents gathered outside, holding handmade signs and chanting Abel’s name. When Rodriguez was led outside and saw his brand-new car waiting for him, he was overcome with emotion.
