The annual contest unveiled its winners, highlighting avian photos that focus on conservation issues, the beauty of birds and their sometimes hilarious behaviour.

Photographers are often inspired to point their lenses at birds - and the pics from this year's Bird Photographer of the Year Awards show how sometimes photographers produce some truly stunning images.
