Jaguar’s Electric GT is Heavy And Very Powerful

Jaguar’s new all-electric grand tourer was one of the more controversial unveilings of 2024 in its Barbie pink or electric blue bodywork, but it's now been tested on ice in Sweden.

The Type 00 is designed to be Jaguar's endeavour at going ultra-luxury and competing with the likes of Bentley and Rolls-Royce, after years in which the marque struggled to have much identity. The car gave Jaguar loads of new identity - being large, distinctive-looking, and very pink - but the new look was laughed at by many. However, Jaguar forged ahead anyway. The new car will, apparently, be about as heavy as it looks, or nearly 3 tons, according to Evo, which tested the grand tourer in Sweden.
The range is claimed to be around 435 miles but the big surprise is its power at around 1,000 brake horsepower. “Clearly, this isn’t a car with physics-defying responsiveness and absolute body control - it seems to embrace the fact that it’s a large, comfort-oriented GT,” Evo says. “But it’s also one with 1000bhp to manage, and the scale of that challenge comes to light on the handling circuit. There’s a monstrous level of forward thrust... A very sensitive right foot is required to carve tidy lines on the ice.” But, of course, nobody in their right mind is going to drive this beast on ice when it actually becomes available to buy. It's just part of the testing process.

In March 2025, Jaguar’s controversial ultra-luxury new EV made quite a statement during its public debut in Paris. Even a few celebrities took it for a spin. The vehicle “previews what’s to come from Jaguar” as the company looks to revamp the British sports car brand for the EV era. During an interview with The Sunday Times in December, CEO Adrian Mardell said the new lineup will likely be priced around £150,000, or nearly $200,000.
The production version of the Jaguar Type 00 is scheduled to be revealed in mid-2026, with customer deliveries expected in late 2026 or 2027.
