Has there ever been a more extraordinary story about doppelgangers than this one?
When Mark Garland arrived at the check-in desk at Heathrow airport for a flight to Bangkok he was told by the staff that he had “already checked in”. Mark Garland assured the check-in team that he hadn't already checked in and was standing at the desk for the first time. After half an hour, staff finally figured out that there were two Mark Garlands on the flight.
When he eventually got to his seat, guess what, the 58-year-old found himself seated right next to the other Mark Garland. And now things got even more extraordinary. Not only do they look have the same name, they even looked alike - and both were wearing black and sporting shaved heads.
Sitting side by side with 11 hours to kill on their flight to Thailand, the already extraordinary coincidences get even more extraordinary.
One was a bus driver from Trowbridge, Wiltshire, the other was a 62-year-old builder who lives just 34 miles away in Bristol - so close that sometimes Mark gets on the other Mark’s bus route. Plus, they both have four children, both are currently single, and Thailand is the favourite destination for both of them. Where they have both been at least a dozen times.
By the end of the flight, the two Mark Garlands were solid friends for life.
