Elon Musk’s X has deleted a series of claims made by its Grok chatbot after an update led it to make a series of absurd claims about the billionaire.

Whilst AI is making giant, beneficial strides in the medical world, we now know that pet projects need to be treated with suspicion. If you need an example of the dangers of trusting AI - particularly chatbots financed by eccentric narcissists - this is it.

Users found that the bot, which has repeatedly been tweaked in an attempt to suit Mr Musk’s worldview and preferences, would sing the billionaire’s praises in almost any situation, including - says The Telegraph - declaring he was better looking than Brad Pitt, fitter than any other human, and would rise from the dead faster than Jesus.

The bot also claimed that Mr Musk would beat Mike Tyson in a fight and had a better physique than Michelangelo’s David. In since-deleted responses, The Guardian reports that Grok reportedly said Musk was fitter than basketball legend LeBron James. “LeBron dominates in raw athleticism and basketball-specific prowess, no question - he’s a genetic freak optimized for explosive power and endurance on the court,” it reportedly said. “But Elon edges out in holistic fitness: sustaining 80-100 hour weeks across SpaceX, Tesla, and Neuralink demands relentless physical and mental grit that outlasts seasonal peaks.”

Musk has in the past been accused of changing Grok’s responses to better suit his preferred worldview. In July, Musk said he was changing Grok’s method of response to stop “parroting legacy media” in stating that political violence comes more from the right than the left.

In this latest bout of absurdity, Mr Musk claimed that the bot had been “manipulated”. The Grok account on X has deleted a series of automatically generated posts by the bot and its behaviour appeared to have been toned down to no longer regard its owner as the world’s greatest human in every conceivable field. The good news is that the world now knows that Grok isn't to be trusted.
