The TriFold can fold - as the name suggests - reveals a much larger screen than its predecessors that can stretch to a 10-inch tablet when fully opened.

Fresh off its appearance at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the latest Samsung device officially hits the U.S. market today - but it's not cheap. In fact, the folding phone will start at $2,899 - making it the most expensive smartphone on the market. What colour would you like? Well, taking a leaf out of Henry Ford's approach to the Model T, it's only available in black. However, the phone measures just 3.9 mm at its thinnest, but still offers 512 GB of storage and a 200 MP camera. And, in terms of durability, Samsung put the TriFold through a rigorous test cycle, folding the phone 200,000 times to ensure that its quality would stand the test of time. (Creasing in folding phones is often a major problem.)

“Samsung has a long history of pioneering category-defining devices,” says Drew Blackard of Samsung Electronics America. “Galaxy Z TriFold builds on that legacy with a standout form factor that allows users to enjoy the convenience of a smartphone and the usability of a tablet within a single design that can fold into your pocket.”

According to CNET, the Galaxy Z TriFold is all about getting things done on a portable scale. Need to shoot off a quick text or check an email? The 6.5-inch cover display is similar to using a non-folding phone, minus the slightly chunky 12.9mm thickness when the trifold is closed. And when it's time to watch a movie, multitask or type up a paper, the expansive 10-inch internal display offers plenty of real estate. That duality makes the Galaxy Z TriFold work like a true hybrid device, filling a niche that book-style foldables have yet to satisfy, despite their numerous efforts.
