What better way to start the weekend than with some upbeat news stories?

Age Adventurously
For many, adventuring never gets old - and that might just be the key to unlocking a happier mindset, especially later in life. A recent survey by Road Scholar, a not-for-profit organization creating educational adventures for seniors, found that 94 percent of older adults who “age adventurously” report greater well-being, and many feel just as happy in their 50s, 60s, and beyond as they did in their 20s or 30s. But what does it mean to “age adventurously”? While there’s no one-size-fits-all definition, respondents categorized the term as everything from staying physically active to exploring the world.

Tallest Timber Tower
The United States has a new center for tall timber towers - and it's not NYC or Chicago, as you might assume - but Milwaukee. Called 'Neutral', the world's next tallest timber tower is due to begin construction in the Wisconsin city on June 16, near the current world record holder, the Ascent. The Wisconsin build will rise to a height of 375 ft (114.3 m), which is significantly taller than the Ascent's 284 ft (86.6 m). Its interior will consist of 31 of floors and 350 residences. Boosting its sustainability credentials further, the tower is slated to receive the stringent Passive House green building certification, which requires a very high level of air-tightness and overall energy efficiency.

Win For Nature
A vast new ocean reserve has been created off the coast of Patagonia in Argentina. Spanning 1,140 square miles, Patagonia Azul Provincial Park encompasses vibrant ecosystems that support a dizzying array of marine life, including seabirds, whales and seals. “Patagonia Azul places under legal protection one of the most biodiverse areas of the Argentine Sea,” said Sofia Heinonen, executive director of Rewilding Argentina. “This is a resounding win for marine conservation.”
6 Percent
The share of electricity in Greece that comes from coal, down from about 50 percent in 2014. Solar and wind have replaced it; their share has tripled in the last decade; when combined, they’ve become the largest source. As a result, says OurWorldinData, the country’s CO2 emissions from coal have fallen by nearly 90 percent from their peak, and national emissions as a whole have halved.

Care Transformation
A landmark international study has found that structured exercise after cancer treatment can cut a patient's risk of death by 37 percent and disease recurrence by 28 percent - results more effective than many drugs. The eight-year study, involving colon cancer patients in six countries, showed that coaching-supported activity significantly improved outcomes. Experts say the findings, presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology conference, will likely transform global cancer care guidelines and highlight exercise as a powerful low-risk intervention.
Corporate Liability
A German court just melted one of Big Oil’s key climate defences. Germany’s top civil court has dismissed a lawsuit by a Peruvian farmer against energy giant RWE, but confirmed that private companies can be held liable for their share of climate damages. The court ruled the flood risk to Lliuya’s property wasn’t imminent, but upheld the core idea of corporate accountability for emissions. Legal experts say it could fundamentally shift who pays for climate damages - from taxpayers, to polluters.
