The First Images From The Vera C. Rubin Observatory

These stunning images of the Trifid and Lagoon nebulae and Virgo Cluster are some of the first images taken by the team at the Vera C. Rubin Observatory. Each image is comprised of hundreds of photos, taken over many hours.

The pictures from the new $810m observatory in Chile mark the start of what astronomers believe will be a game-changing period of discovery as the telescope sets about compiling the best view yet of the universe in action.
