World's Loneliest Bear Rescued

She spent her whole life in a cage but has now been rescued and taken to a bear sanctuary in Switzerland where she can live out her days in comfort and make new friends.

Jambolina, an 11 year old brown bear, spent her whole life in a cage in Ukraine, where she was forced to perform for the circus. Animal rights organization Four Paws did everything in their power to rescue and transport her to safety.

While Four Paws has a rescue center in Ukraine, it currently has 22 bears which is the maximum capacity. That's why the organization contacted a Swiss reserve for help. Together they took Jambolina on a four-day 1,500-mile journey to the Arosa Bear Land reserve in Switzerland.

Initially Jambolina will remain in an adaptation enclosure so that the team of animal caretakers can observe her. After a short adjustment period, she will meet other bears in the reserve. and finally start to enjoy life and make new friends.

“Through targeted food distribution, she will be accustomed to the rhythm of hibernation and hopefully regain her natural instincts,“ Four Paws' Barbara van Genne commented.
