Air Dolphin

Talk about catching the perfect moment. The Pacific Whale Foundation has shared what might be one of the most incredible dolphin photos ever taken - and they want everyone to know: this is not AI. Captured off the coast of Maui, the image shows a pantropical spotted dolphin soaring high above the ocean in a breathtaking leap. “Introducing the Michael Jordan of dolphins,” the team wrote. “Air Dolphin - estimated jump 15 ft in the air.” To put that into perspective, these dolphins typically grow to about 6 to 7 feet long and weigh around 250 pounds. If a human could match that kind of athleticism relative to body size, it would be like jumping clean over a basketball hoop.

Jargon Buster

A translation platform has added “LinkedIn speak” to its list of languages, to help people nail users’ much-mocked corporate lingo on the networking site. “I’ve been arrested for fraud” becomes “I’m thrilled to announce I’m starting a new chapter!” when run through AI company Kagi’s tool, said The Times. “It also translates in reverse, decoding a wall of buzzwords back into plain English,” said chief executive Vladimir Prelovac. “That might actually be the more useful direction.”

The Only Good Thing

The Iran shock is speeding the shift away from fossil fuels. The data is starting to come in: Trump's war is acting as an accelerant for clean energy. As oil and gas volatility pushes up costs, households from Britain to India and Pakistan are turning to EVs, solar, heat pumps and induction stoves as a hedge. Bloomberg says that these shifts will not stay local: when major economies accelerate the transition, others follow, creating spillover effects that outlast the crisis. Retro Hi-Fi

The Trettitre Retro is a rather unique wall-mounted Hi-Fi station that brings together a turntable, CD player, and cassette deck into one cohesive, high-performance unit. Blending retro aesthetics with modern engineering, the system features a bold vertical layout that turns your music playback into a visual centerpiece. Launched with a modest goal, the campaign has become a major hit in the design and audio community. It has already surpassed 10,000% of its funding target and earned official “Project We Love” status from Kickstarter. There's still time to secure one for $399 if it takes your fancy.

New Discoveries

An expedition into limestone escarpments and deep in the cave systems in Cambodia has discovered several new reptile species, including a dazzling blue/green pit viper. Exploring over 60 caves across 10 hills in the Battambang province, researchers found a number of extraordinary creatures, many of which are found nowhere else on Earth. Led by Fauna & Flora International in collaboration with Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment, the team identified 6 new geckos, 2 micro-snails, and 2 millipedes in addition to the viper - a spectacular new species of pit viper (from the Trimeresurus genus) and is currently being described.

Have A Break

A lorry carrying 413,793 KitKat bars from a factory in Italy “was making its way to Poland when it was stolen” last week, said CBS. Manufacturer Nestlé is “working with local law enforcement on the investigation”, but the whereabouts of the truck and its chocolatey contents remains unknown. “We’ve always encouraged people to have a break with KitKat,” a spokesperson said. “But it seems thieves have taken the message too literally and made a break with more than 12 tons of our chocolate.”
