Healthy skin isn’t something all of us get to enjoy simply by virtue of existing.

Some of us have to work harder than others to achieve the same level of sun-catching brilliance, while others get to rise in the morning with preemptively perfect skin… But blemishes come for all of us, irrespective of our place in that particular genetic lottery!

There are so many personal and environmental factors that can affect our skin, many of which are increased tenfold when we dare to do something like take a vacation. Whether you’re expecting a long backpacking trip with all the physical exhaustion that ensues or simply taking a two-week break somewhere sunny, the following tips should help you keep on top of your skincare game.

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate: The Key to Glowing Skin

First and perhaps foremost, staying hydrated is absolutely crucial for maintaining healthy

skin, and especially so during long flights or in dry climates. This is naturally helped by

drinking plenty of water as you travel, but not exclusively so; you also benefit from using

hydrating and moisturizing skincare products to keep your skin nourished.

Protect Your Skin from the Sun: Sunscreen is a Must

The next-most important factor is an environmental one. To quote the meme, “the sun is a

deadly laser”; protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays is nothing short of

essential to the prevention of damage to your skin. There’s the frustrating blush of mild

sunburn to mitigate, but also the far more impactful knock-on implications for your skin

health, whether rapid aging or the increased risk of cancer.

Applying sunscreen daily is the safest way to mitigate this impact, particularly if you’re

traveling somewhere on the equator. Make sure to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an

SPF of at least 30, and make sure to reapply it as regularly as you possibly can - especially

if you’re taking a dip.

Keep Your Skin Clean: Gentle Cleansing is Essential

Keeping clean is an obvious must when traveling, which naturally exposes your skin to more

pollutants, dirt, and sweat than you’ll usually encounter. Try investing in a gentle cleanser, as

opposed to anything too chemical or heavy-duty; you want to remove impurities without

stripping your skin of its natural oils in the process! Picking something light also makes it

safer for you to clean twice a day, at the start and at the end.

Use Skin Brightening Products for a Fresh Glow

On the aesthetic side of things, travel can absolutely impact how your skin looks over time,

even if just temporarily. If you’re feeling a little self-conscious about how dull and tired your

skin seems after a long journey, try using a skin lightening and brightening cream - and all

the better if it has ascorbic acid. These products are fantastic for evening out your skin tone,

returning your healthful glow even after a trying day.

Sleep Well for Healthy Skin

Lastly, but no less importantly, sleep is vital for your skin - so make sure you’re getting

enough! Rest allows the skin to repair and rehydrate itself properly, to say nothing of the

overall de-stressing benefits you can also experience. Travel is fun, so make sure not to fret too much about any of this. Making skincare an ancillary part of your daily routine will enable you to enjoy your trip to the fullest, with great skin for the photos too.
