Working Out at Your Desk

Updated: Oct 14, 2023

If you struggle to find time to go to the gym, why not slot an exercise bike under your work desk? You can even use your pedal pumping to power a smartphone or laptop.

The Ampera uses a super-quiet belt-drive system for minimal noise distractions, and essentially harnesses kinetic energy from pedaling and converts it into usable power for your various electronic gizmos. Essentially, your in-put is its out-put.

As you might expect, the Ampera comes with an app that also provides multiple fitness stats such as cadence, speed, distance, estimated calories burned, and power generated.

A fabric-covered padded seat is reckoned good for "all-day comfort" and the height is adjustable to accommodate users between 5 and 6.4 ft (1.52 - 1.95 m). So, it's suitable for just about everyone who wants to pedal a few miles without leaving their desk.

The Ampera desk bike from Utah-based LifeSpan Fitness is currently on offer for $549 with first deliveries expected in November. Perfect timing to enable buyers to get their workout done without having to head out into winter weather.

Unfortunately, the bike doesn't come with a corresponding 'standing desk' - but there are lots of options available on the market. Alternatively, LifeSpan sells them in its webstore starting at $499.
