World’s Largest Sloop Will Launch Shortly
Shipbuilder Royal Huisman is on the verge of making marine history.

The Dutch shipyard unveiled what is set to be a record-breaking vessel during the Monaco Yacht Show. The new 280-footer will become the world’s largest sloop upon launch in November. It will also rank among the 10 biggest sailing yachts on the water. The yacht is equipped with a large battery and an energy regeneration system, enabling silent, emissions-free operation.
The sloop is designed to be elegant, powerful, and comfortable on the seas, with an ability to set sail in a matter of minutes. The super-sized aluminum hull has enough volume for two decks around a single mast and a small deckhouse, and the sleek-looking craft "represents an extraordinary combination of vision, scale, and innovation,” says Royal Huisman CEO. “The ambition was never simply to build the world’s largest sloop, but to create a stunning sailing yacht that remains true to the pleasure and performance of sailing.”

Designed by Wetzels Brown, the interior is described as “a private, relaxed retreat.” Sadly, no images of the interior are yet available but we are told that extra-large hull windows, skylights, and soaring ceilings create a light, airy feel throughout. The main living areas are positioned within the hull on one level beneath a refined deckhouse. A double-height main entrance leads toward the salon and the forward owner’s suite. At the opposite end, the aft veranda flows onto the beach club.
If you are wondering what the difference is between a sloop and a yacht, here's the answer: A sloop is a specific type of sailboat with a single mast and two sails (one mainsail behind the mast, and one headsail - like a jib or genoa - in front of the mast), whereas a yacht is any recreational boat used for pleasure, cruising, or racing, regardless of how many masts it has or whether it is powered by sails, an engine, or both.
