Fancy zipping around London in a red Mini, evoking the Swinging Sixties, but with zero emissions thanks to an updated electric motor?
How fab and groovy is this? Driving around swinging London in an original Mini, all fire-engine red and gorgeously retro, restored with Sixties-style 10-inch wheels and a bank of spotlights. Under the bonnet, however, this classic Mini sports an up-to-the-minute battery-electric drivetrain. No tailpipe emissions nor exhaust particulates.
SmallCarBigCity, a London-based tour company, is offering just such a car for hire (at about £100 per hour plus VAT). Its managing director, Robert Welch, is hoping that Rosie, the red beauty shown here, will more than pull its weight financially.
The idea is that you hire a Mini, slot in three friends and tour the capital’s sights just like the opening credits of your own 1960s red-bus movie; just add kinky boots and a Mary Quant bob and you’re there. Next stop Carnaby Street?
