The Power of Kindness

Contributing to making the world a better place...

After feeling increasingly despairing of the problems of the world Bernadette Russell decided to do a random act of kindness for a stranger every day for a year. “It was a really creative journey that was also incredibly tiring and inspiring. Mostly it was a warm glow around your heart and your tummy. It just felt really good,” says Bernadette.

Robin Banerjee, with Sussex Centre for Research on Kindness in the United Kingdom says, “There are patterns of activation in the brain which correspond to a boost of well-being. The reward pathways in the brain are activated when people are performing kind acts.”

Bernadette said, “The biggest lesson I learned is that we embrace the fact that every single day I can do something. That thing might be just saying good morning to someone. That thing might be just smiling. That’s how we change the world."
