Thousands of graduates took to the stage at the University of North Texas last weekend to celebrate earning their degrees. One of them completed a master's program at 90 years old.
Minnie Payne graduated with her master's in interdisciplinary studies 73 years after she graduated from high school. "Now that I've accomplished it, it seems sort of surreal," she said. Payne recently got a new job working at a magazine in Houston, reports CBS News. "It's my intention to continue working as long as I am physically and mentally able to do it."
Dolphin With Thumbs
In a fascinating discovery that has left marine biologists intrigued, a dolphin with thumbs has been spotted off the coast of Greece. The remarkable creature was observed not once but twice this summer by researchers from the Pelagos Cetacean Research Institute. "It was the very first time we saw this surprising flipper morphology in 30 years of surveys in the open sea," Alexandros Frantzis, president of the Institute, told Live Science.
US Christmas Cookies
America's most popular Christmas cookies this year are a festive mix of cultural and colorful varieties, according to data from Google Trends. Italian Christmas cookies were the favorite in 13 states, whilst peanut butter blossoms were the dominant cookie for four states. Gingerbread cookies were the most popular in three states, down from seven last year.
